Certification for Oil Tank Removal Update
The following information was received from the Department of Environmental Protection Unregulated Heating Tank Program December 21, 2009 Dear Construction Code Official: NJ.S.A 58:108-21, has been amended to require all contractors performing work on unregulated heating oil tanks to be certified. In accordance with NJAC 7:14B-16.l, the Department of Environmental Protection has provided notification in the New Jersey Register and on the Department's website that the Department has established a testing program for obtaining certification under this subchapter for individuals or business firms providing services for unregulated heating oil tanks, including Installation, Closure, Subsurface Evaluation, Tank Testing and Corrosion Protection. On September 17, 2009 , an examination for obtaining certification for individuals and business firms providing services for unregulated heating oil tank systems in any of the categories listed in NJAC. 7:14B-16.5, and mentioned above, was administered. On January 15, 2010 , the Department will begin enforcing the provisions of NJAC 7:148-16, which requires all individuals and firms performing work on unregulated heating oil tanks to hold the appropriate certification for the activity being performed. At that time, the Department requests that proof of certification be a requirement for obtaining municipal building permits for all work on unregulated heating oil tanks defined in NJAC 7: 14B-1.6.
