Change in Bloomingdale Leaf Collection Policy
The Borough Policy for Leaf Collection has changed: Adoption of Resolution #2009-5.2: Authorization to go to Bagging Leaves in the Borough The Borough of Bloomingdale changed the practice of Leaf Pickup in the Borough effective May 12, 2009 to curbside pickup of leaves that are contained in approved paper bags. This change in our Leaf Pickup was considered essential in controlling the costs of the Borough’s daily operations and removes the Borough from the exposure to NJ DEP fines under NJ DEP Stormwater Regulations. The Borough also was facing expanded Leaf Pickup services to all of our Lake Communities under the “Kelly Law,” where we are required to provide equal service to all of our residents. The Borough annual fall pickup will no longer allow resident to rake, blow or otherwise place leaves curbside. Instead, leaves are to be bagged (thirty (30) pound limit) and placed curbside on designated pickup days. The Borough has also added a penalty clause for those residents who violate the new ordinance. The Borough asks for resident cooperation and compliance with this change. Residents are required to use appropriate brown paper bags approved for this purpose. The Borough has bags available during the hours of 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM Monday through Thursday at Borough Hall. The bags sell for 3 for $1.00. The Leaf Bag Pickup Schedule will be posted on the Borough’s Web Site Respectfully, Ted M. Ehrenburg Borough Administrator |
